Open Courses and Student Learning: A Faculty Roundtable on Friday, October 28, 2011 from 12:30 to 2:00 PM

Faculty from across campus will share their views and experiences with different approaches to making their course materials more openly available to students at Dartmouth and elsewhere. This is a great opportunity to share views, practices, and tools (such as use of Creative Commons), and to discuss future directions in this changing environment, including the CHE news that Blackboard will provide an option to share course content, using a Creative Commons license.

The speakers (John Wilbanks, Consent to Research Project, formerly with Berkman Center and Science Commons), Heather Piwowar (NSF Data Cyberinfrastructure), and Molly Keener (Scholarly Communications Librarian at Wake Forest University) will address what STM subject librarians and other information professionals should understand about the changing nature of publishing.  They will address how librarians can better communicate with their patrons and researchers concerning many of these issues.
