Box Packing Instructions

* Pack only one type of record in each box.

Do not mix material with different series numbers or retention schedules. If you have questions about how best to separate your material, contact Records Management.

* Pack material facing the front of the box.

The front of the box is the smaller end with a handle and the printed words "Dartmouth College." Files should be readable when viewed from this end.

* Do not send Pendaflex hanging folders.

Hanging folders eventually destroy the box. If you must include Pendaflex, put the files lengthwise in the box, to avoid them hanging on the cardboard edges.

* Do not put any markings on the box.

Records Management is a secure facility. Boxes have no labels other than the numbers assigned. Any writings you put on the box must be taped over. Save Records Management this step!

* REQUIRED: Include a Box Transfer Form.

Records Management requires that a completed copy of this form (with Department and Series Numbers assigned) be included in each box. An original form may be downloaded from this site.
