We provide fee-based reproduction services for those needing copies of special collections materials.

Copy orders may be submitted in person or via email.  For digital images, please use the order form.  We may contact you before we process your request to review the pricing and details of your order.  Please note that bound items often cannot be scanned and will be imaged with a digital camera. This limits the available resolution to 5x7 @ 300ppi.

Your are permitted to take your own digital images of many special collections items.  A camera stand and a digital camera are available for use in the Reading Room.  There is no charge for use of this equipment.  You may also bring your own camera or hire a professional photographer.  Flatbed scans must be performed by a staff member and are fee-based.

The copies we supply are for your personal research use only.  Please review your rights and responsibilities regarding reproductions of items from our collections for more information on displaying, reproducing, or publishing copies of items from the collection.  For permission to publish from the collections, please complete and return our Permission to Publish Contract.

We accept cash, credit cards, and personal checks.  Sorry, but we are not able to accept DASH.

General Fees

• Fee for Shipping & Handling: $5.00 per order
• Minimum charge of $8.00 per order for offsite users
• Commercial use fee of $100.00 per image per use
• Rush Fees (if available): Same Day: 400%, Within 48hrs: 200%
• Limits per project (at staff discretion): 20 scans

• Digital Image Files: $1.00 per image file
• $3.00 per 8x10 Inkjet Print (includes scanning fee)
• $6.00 per 13x19 Inkjet Print (includes scanning fee)

Dartmouth-affiliated faculty, staff, or organizations; federally-funded projects and organizations:

• Digital Image Files: $5.00 per image file
• $2.00 per CD
• $7.00 per 8x10 Inkjet Print (includes scanning fee)
• $10.00 per 13x19 Inkjet Print (includes scanning fee)

Non-profit entities and individual researchers (non-Dartmouth affiliated)

• Digital Image Files: $10.00 per image file
• $5.00 per CD
• $12.00 per 8x10 Inkjet Print (includes scanning fee)
• $15.00 per 13x19 Inkjet Print (includes scanning fee)

Commercial and for-profit organizations

• Digital Image Files: $20.00 per image file
• $5.00 per CD
• $25.00 per 8x10 Inkjet Print (includes scanning fee)
• $30.00 per 13x19 Inkjet Print (includes scanning fee)

Receipt of an image does not constitute permission to publish. Publication or reproduction requires the written permission of Special Collections and may also require permission of the photographer. Permission for publication or reproduction is granted for one time only; future use requires further written permission.

There are "use fees" for commercial use of images; commercial use fees are $100.00 per image for one time use. These fees are normally waived for non-profit organizations.

All images must be credited with the appropriate credit line: Dartmouth College Library.
