This is an early view of the principal buildings of Dartmouth College in 1803. At center is Dartmouth Hall. The print is framed with a reproduction of George Ticknor's presentation note. The inscription reads:
Where late the Savage roamed in search of prey,
Fair Science spreads her all enlivening ray.
The ancient forest fallin'; it's inmates fled;
See Seats and Sons of learning in their stead!
'Tis scenes like these, that freedom's pow'r disclose,
She makes the desert bloom like the rose.
