The Hanover Town Records are a rich resource for local history and genealogical research endeavors. The records span the years between 1761 and 1993. The collection comprises annual reports, vital statistics, correspondence of the town manager and selectmen, the record books of the colonial proprietors, financial ledgers, maps, the town charter, tax records, and other documents from the town offices as well as municipal boards and committees.
The town records consist of fifteen subgroups. Each subgroup contains either the records of a particular municipal office or board, or relate to a municipal function. Below is a list of selected topics to which the records pertain and the subgroup(s) and series that researchers are advised to consult.
A complete guide to the Hanover Town Records is available in the reading room of the Rauner Special Collections Library in Webster Hall. Copies of the guide are also available at the Hanover Municipal Building and the Howe Library.
