Selecting a Scanning Device
The Flat-bed scanner in Baker 02 can be used with:
- items that are smaller than 16" x 12" (dimensions of glass platen)
- flat items that do not exhibit major surface distortions (such as warping or cockling)
- items that do not contain sensitive media on the surface (pastels, charcoals, soft pencils, etc.)
- photographic items that do not have distorted supports, flaking or powdery surfaces, or any sticky surfaces
- flexible single section pamphlets or similarly bound items that can be opened with ease and that are not brittle
The Planetary or Overhead scanner in Resource Sharing (Baker-Berry Library) can be used with:
- bound volumes that are properly supported in a cradle
- items smaller than 16.54" x 23.99" (dimensions of scanning area)
- fragile items or items with sensitive media that can not otherwise be scanned on the flatbed scanner
An Automatic Feed Scanner (any photocopier with a scanning feature) can be used with:
- items that are single sheets
- items that fit the dimensions of the feeder
- flexible and non brittle paper
- items that do not have losses or tears in the paper
- items that are clean and do not show evidence of mold activity
- items that do not contain sensitive media on the surface (pastels, charcoals, soft pencils, etc.)
