Sitayana / Ramayana: double sided accordion fold binding with pop-up illustrations

"This pop-up was made for the final project of a class I took on Hindu Epics in Text and Performance winter term…the book is modeled on the archaic Hindu epic, the Ramayana. The Wayang Kulit ("Shadow Puppet")…is a traditional Javanese performance…the image depicted on the front and back of the book is a kayonan, the tree of life, which begins and ends each scene in the Wayang Kulit. The odd-looking figures in the book are images of Wayang Kulit characters."
