Commercial Binding

Commercially Bound JournalsCommercial binding is a cost-effective method for insuring that flimsy soft-cover items or stacks of unbound sheets are protected and preserved. Preservation Services staff are responsible for the commercial  binding preparation of journals from Baker-Berry Library and Sherman Art Library as well as severely damaged monographs, and other items that would benefit from the treatment. We work with binders who observe Library Binding Council standards.

Preservation Services staff prepare items for commercial binding by examining the leaf attachment or original method of binding. Staff input author and title information into a vendor-provided database (ABLE) and request a specific method of binding, cover material, and spine stamping color. That information is sent along with the volumes once a month to our commercial binder The HFGroup.
