How to connect from
off-campus
The purpose of the News Center plasma screens is to supplement the news resources in the Library, to inform the Dartmouth community about Library Services, to provide special news related programming, and to broadcast Dartmouth Community events when additional coverage is required.
Each screen will have its own schedule. The schedule will only be modified during the term for special programming , emergency situations, or because of staffing issues. However, channel selection is at the discretion of the Library and may change without notice. The schedules will be determined prior to each term and will take into consideration any request made during the previous term. A standing committee will evaluate the programming for each term based on the widest audience appeal with the goal of providing news and special programming with preference given to programming offering closed captioning.
The screens’ sound will be muted and closed captions displayed. Sound may be authorized when situations exceed the number of headphone units available for use and when additional compliance is needed for the Americans with Disabilities Act. Use of sound will not be permitted if it will disrupt other library activities.
Broadcast stations and providers of current news generally do not restrict the types of venues in which their content can be displayed. These sources in most cases want the community to have access to their information. Examples: CNN, MSNBC, C-SPAN, FoxNews, CNBC, The Weather Channel.
Entertainment, sports and other information providers do not usually permit public performances or group viewing. Examples: Disney, A&E, Cartoon Network, Discovery Channel, History Channel, ESPN, AMC
In accordance with the above, the News Center will only air programming that is available on broadcast and current news stations.
Requests for change(s) in programming should be emailed to Library.News.Center@dartmouth.edu.
Additional Viewing Options
If Dartmouth students, faculty, and staff would like to view programming not
available on the current News Center screen schedules, they are encouraged to
use their residential hall lounges, Collis, or the Jones Media Center. The
general public is encouraged to use Collis and should not be directed to Jones
Media Center since a Dartmouth ID or Library card is required for their viewing
carrels.
