Student Employment at the Jones Media Center

Student workers are integral to the work flow at the Jones Media Center. Each term Jones employs between 25 and 30 students covering approximately 170 hours. We are looking for students that understand and value good public service and are willing to work as team players. The Jones Media Center offers the following positions to Dartmouth students:

Circulation Services Assistant:

Hours covered: Sun 1PM-10PM • Mon – Thu 9AM-10PM • Fri – Sat 10AM-6PM

Job Description

Provide customer service at the Jones Circulation desk; check-out/in media and reserve materials; assign editing and viewing stations; process, file, and maintain media collections; assist patrons with microform reader/printers; process interlibrary loan requests; help with various Media Center projects as needed.

Requirements

Circulation student workers are the first point of contact for most patrons and we expect our students to be polite and professional; good people skills and a desire to interact with patrons are basic requirements for this job; students must be able to work a minimum of 4 hours/week.

Applications

Technical Services Assistant:

Hours covered: Sun 2PM-10PM • Mon – Thu 5PM-10PM • Fri 2PM-6PM • Sat 1PM-6PM

Job Description

Provide technical support for patrons working on multimedia projects; assist in developing and updating user tutorials; help troubleshoot hardware and software problems; maintain audio recorders, hard drives and other equipment; quality-check new media; help cover circulation desk when necessary; work on various Media Center projects as needed.

Requirements

Good computer skills; basic knowledge of Apple's iLife software a plus; interest in learning new software; good people skills and capability to guide patrons through technical questions; adept at ad hoc problem solving; pro-active approach to keeping update with the latest Media Center software and equipment; students must be able to work a minimum of 4 hours/week.
