Licensed Resources in the Catalog

About Licensed Resources

The Library Catalog is an index to materials owned and licensed by the Dartmouth College Library; these materials include electronic journals, digital texts and internet databases. Due to licensing agreements, many digital resources have a variety of access requirements. For example, a digital resource may be restricted to members of the Dartmouth College community; another resource may only allow access from a specific machine in a specified physical location.

Who may use licensed resources?

Licensed resources that are authenticated by IP address may be accessed by students, faculty, and staff using a computer with a Dartmouth.edu IP address. Employees of the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH with a Hitchcock.org IP address may also access these resources. To use licensed resources when off-campus, please refer to the Web page, "Off-campus Access at Dartmouth College."

Guest borrowers and visitors may access these resources when using a computer on-campus. Access to licensed resources from off-campus is not available to guest borrowers and visitors.

Licensed resources authenticated by User Name & Password may be accessed by anyone using a computer with a Dartmouth.edu IP address. Employees of the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH with a Hitchcock.org IP address may also access these resources. For more information, please refer to the Web page, "Off-campus Access at Dartmouth College."

Guest borrowers and visitors to the Library do not have access to these resources.

Licensed resources that are only available on a specific computer in the library include resources such as CD-ROM databases as well as some Web-based resources. If you are a guest borrower or visitor and wish to use one of these resources, please contact a Reference Librarian in advance of your visit to determine if you are permitted to use the resource.
