If your proposed gift includes multiple titles, please mail or fax a list, including TITLE, AUTHOR, and IMPRINT. This enables us to search our holdings and identify titles we do not need.

The list of titles is then forwarded to a library subject bibliographer to make the selection decisions.

Please note:

  • The Library may discard or sell unwanted items that we receive. We do not return unwanted items to the donors.
  • We do not do appraisals for tax purposes, nor do we pay for appraisals handled by outside appraisers. However, we will acknowledge the extent of the gift in an acknowledgement letter.
  • Gifts which have been appraised at $500 or greater, by an independent appraiser, are reported to the College's Gift Recording Department, who then supplies the donor with a gift receipt
  • Gift plates are affixed to all donated materials, with the exception of unsolicited corporate donations.

The gift program in the Rauner Special Collections Library is unique, and a Rauner Staff member should be consulted for policy questions regarding Rauner gifts. These might include rare books and manuscripts, or materials produced by Dartmouth alumni. For further information:
