Dartmouth College Library Research Awards

AWARD for LIBRARY RESEARCH in the SCIENCES

The Award for Library Research in the Sciences is held in conjunction with the Karen E. Wetterhahn Science Symposium and presented in partnership with the Office of Undergraduate Research and Advising (UGAR).

All students majoring in science (including neuroscience), math, and engineering who present posters on their research at the Wetterhahn Science Symposium are eligible for the award. To apply for the award, studentsth indicate interest during Wetterhahn online registration and then email their submission to physical sciences librarian. Student submissions should include a 500-750 word essay describing their research strategy, sources used, how their research skills developed, and how their information research contributed to the quality of their project, and a bibliography of sources consulted. Two recipients will receive a $250 prize and a certificate in honor of their achievement.

Submissions will be reviewed by a panel of librarians and winners will be announced during the Wetterhahn Symposium keynote address.

UNDERGRADUATE THESIS LIBRARY RESEARCH AWARD

The Undergraduate Thesis Library Research Award is sponsored by the Dartmouth College Library and the Friends of the Dartmouth College Library and presented in partnership with the Senior Honors Thesis Showcase.

The competition is open to all students who are participating in the Senior Honors Thesis Showcase but who are not also eligible to participate in the Wetterhahn Science Symposium. Students will be notified of their eligibility when contacted about participation in the Thesis Showcase and will be encouraged to visit the Award website and then email their submission packet to library.thesis.award@dartmouth.edu. A completed submission packet should include: answers to a number of short essay questions describing research strategy, sources used, how the student's research skills developed, and how the student's research contributed to the quality of the thesis; a bibliography or other appropriate listing of sources consulted; an abstract of the honors thesis; and a copy of the complete honors thesis. A certificate recognizing the award winners will be displayed in Baker-Berry Library; the winner or winners will also receive a cash award of up to $250.

The submissions will be judged prior to the showcase by a panel of Dartmouth College librarians. The winners of the competition will be announced at the Senior Honors Thesis Showcase, where they must be present to receive the award.
