Film Adaptations

Scope

Provides brief guideline and procedure for cataloging film adaptations.

Content

If the catalog record indicates that a film is based on a literary work (novel, play or short stories), be sure that the record contains an author-title added entry (700 field) for the author upon whose work the film is based.

Example:
245 00 Jaws $h [videorecording]
500 Based on the novel of the same title by Peter Benchley.
700 1 Benchley, Peter. $t Jaws.

In addition to the author-title added entry, please also create or add a subject added entry (600 field) for the author upon whose work the film is based, followed by the form subdivision: $v Film and video adaptations. This field should not contain the title of the work, only the heading for the author followed by the subdivision.

Example:
600 10 Benchley, Peter $v Film and video adaptations.
