Health Statistics -- Hidden Treasures

Tuesday, September 4, 2007
12:00 noon - 1:00 pm
DHMC, Auditorium E

  1. In 2004, what was the leading cause of visits to the emergency room for persons 65 years and older?
  2. In 2004, what was the health expenditure per capita for the Democratic Republic of the Congo? for the US?
  3. How many doctors per 100,000 people are there in New Hampshire?

Finding health statistics can be frustrating; most of the best statistics are hidden from Google. This Library Grand Rounds demonstrated a few librarian "tricks-of-the-trade." Also covered were the wealth of statistics available through the Dartmouth Library.

[ Answers: 1. Chest pain (375,000) 2. $5.00; $6,096.00 3. 260 ]

This Library Grand Rounds was presented by John Cocklin, MLS, MBA, Government Information Librarian at Baker-Berry Library, Dartmouth College.
