Direct-to-consumer advertising significantly affects patients' awareness of and involvement with treatment options. How can clinicians build on this and help patients achieve a balanced understanding of their condition and treatment choices? This Library Grand Rounds reviewed the history of direct-to-consumer advertising and suggest ways to decrease the knowledge gap between drug company marketers and the public.
The Library Grand Rounds featured Ellis Rolett, MD, Professor of Medicine, Active Emeritus; and Pamela Bagley, PhD, MLS, Research and Education Librarian, Dartmouth Biomedical Libraries.
Library Grand Rounds are a forum for presenting information resources and tools of interest to Dartmouth clinicians. Please contact us, if you have questions, comments, or suggestions for future Library Grand Rounds (Biomedical.Libraries.Education@Dartmouth.edu, or call 603-650-1661.)
