Requesting Articles While Using Indexes and Databases

Users of many online indexes, such as PubMed, Web of Science, and CSA, may link to full-text or request copies of articles directly from the results of their searches. Links to “Article Linker” will appear with each citation, such as this example from CSA’s PsycINFO:

Click on the “Article Linker ” link or button and a new browser window will open:

If available, you will be able to link directly to the full-text of the article by clicking on the “Full Text” link in Step 1. You may be presented with more than one option; any of them should work. If the Libraries have not licensed a version of the journal which is available for linking, no options will appear. Step 2 offers you the opportunity to search the library’s catalog for print holdings and digital versions that aren’t able to be linked directly.

If you can’t access the full-text of the article in Step 1, then you may request a copy of the article by clicking on the “Submit DARTDOC Request ” link in Step 3. A third browser window will open:

-> If you are already a registered DartDoc user, enter your DartDoc Username and Password and click on “Logon to DartDoc .” See below for instructions for new DartDoc users.

Next you will see a DarDoc article request form with the article information already filled in. Make changes, if appropriate, and click on "Submit Request":

You will next see the DartDoc Main Menu. The green status bar will give you a Transaction Number so that you can check the progress of your request.

If you want to make additional requests, leave this browser window open and return to the search window with your database search results.

From your results list, pick another citation by clicking on “Article Linker.” Return to the open browser window that shows your full-text options; the window is called "Article Linker Results Screen." Click on “Full Text ” or “Submit…” and continue as above, switching between the windows, until you are done making requests.

After your last request, be sure to logout of DartDoc by clicking on the “Exit DartDoc” link in the DartDoc browser window (labeled "Open URL") and close the window so that another user doesn’t have access to your DartDoc account.

-> If you haven’t already registered for DartDoc, click on “First Time Users.”

You will next see the DartDoc home page:

Click on the appropriate “Register” link depending on what kind of user you are. After filling out the registration form for DartDoc, return to the “Article Linker Results ” browser window, click on "Submit DartDoc Request," and login with your newly created DartDoc name and password and continue as above.
