Ovid's Save Search/Alert function allows you to store search strategies created during a search session, log off, and return at a later time without having to retype each search set manually. It also allows you to save a strategy to be re-run automatically whenever the database is updated, or on a schedule you define, and receive e-mail notification. For instructions, click on "Help" in the green bar at the top of the OvidSP screen, then click on "Save Searches" under "Develop a Search Strategy" at the left.
Personal Accounts are needed to save searches. Using the Kerberos-authenticated access to Ovid (the Start Ovid button) automatically puts you in a personal account. Users of the non-Kerberos-authenticated access (a link below the Start Ovid button) will need register for and sign in to a Personal Account. For instructions, click on "Help" in the green bar at the top of the OvidSP screen, then click on "Create a Personal Account" under "Secure a Personal Account" in the Help index at the left.
Expert Searches are a special type of saved searches created by librarians to share search strategies and results with clients. You will find the Expert Searches together with your own saved searches when you click on Saved Searches/Alerts in the blue bar at the top of the Ovid Main Search Page. These searches can be run by you, alone or in combination with your own search terms. Included are a search for Dartmouth/DHMC authors and several strategies helpful in finding Evidence-Based Medicine.
