Having Trouble Logging In?
How to Get Help

The Ovid system is available to faculty, students, and staff of Dartmouth College, the Dartmouth Medical School, the Dartmouth Institute, and the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center/Lebanon.

Please direct general questions and requests for help with Ovid searching to Biomedical.Libraries.Reference@dartmouth.edu or call 603-650-1660 (Dana Reference Desk) or 603-650-7660 (Matthews-Fuller Reference Desk).

If you are having trouble logging into the system:

If you are on the College or DHMC network by direct connection, modem pool, or VPN and Kerberos/SideCar doesn't work, try connecting to Ovid at http://gateway.ovid.com/autologin.html.

If you are off-campus, and not connected to the College or DHMC computer networks, use a Virtual Private Network (VPN):

  • The Dartmouth College VPN is available for users in the Dartmouth.edu name directory who have either Mac OSX or Windows 98/2000/XP. Instructions for installation and downloading may be found here. Consult your information technology department for assistance with installation.
  • DHMC's VPN is available for users in the Hitchcock.org name directory. Information may be found at https://mylogin.hitchcock.org/externalaccess/. Click on "Information Downloads" and then select “Personal Computer” and “Biomedical Libraries Resources.” DHMC Computing requests that users apply all Windows Critical Updates and have updated virus definitions before using the VPN. DHMC’s VPN is available for Windows only, and Internet Explorer is the recommended browser. Contact DHMC's user support with questions; see below. To connect to the DHMC VPN, go to: https://tunnel1.hitchcock.org/webvpn.html and log in.
  • Are you at a Dartmouth-Hitchcock affiliated site outside of Lebanon? Licensing for the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Alliance for clinical sites not on DHMC's computer network, and for people in the hitchcock.org name directory but not based in Lebanon ended as of September 1, 2008.  Dartmouth Medical School faculty and students and continue to access Ovid regardless of location; use of the College VPN may be required.

Is it Saturday evening? Ovid schedules routine systems maintenance for Saturday evenings from 9pm to midnight Eastern Time; Ovid may not be available during those hours. Maintenance is not done every week.
