The Biomedical Libraries at Dartmouth College and the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center invite applications for the position of Associate Director/Research and Education Services. The person in this position leads and provides direction for our team of biomedical librarians engaged in education, outreach, research support and reference, and other health and life sciences information services to Dartmouth College, its Department of Biological Sciences, the Dartmouth Medical School (DMS), the Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice (TDI), and the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC).
Responsibilities
Reports to the Director of Biomedical Libraries. Participates as a member of the administrative team of the Biomedical Libraries. Recruits, trains, supervises, and mentors five biomedical Research and Education Librarians deployed at multiple sites. Works with this group to assess needs; develops and evaluates programs; collaborates with faculty, clinicians, students, and other clients; and contributes to workshops, classes, seminars, grand rounds, and other education programs. Represents the Biomedical Libraries on DMS's curriculum committee and relevant College Library, TDI, and DHMC committees and groups. Educates clients about access to and management and application of information to advance research, education, and patient care. Ensures continuing excellence in education and service programs. Explores and helps to implement new ways of delivering library and information resources and services. The ideal candidate will be an active member of the research and education team, both overseeing and participating in education, research support, and the Libraries' liaison program.
Requirements
ALA-accredited degree in library or information science, or a combination of an advanced subject or professional degree combined with relevant academic health or life sciences library experience; minimum six years post-MLS or equivalent in an academic health or life sciences library. Experience leading education programs, preferably in an academic health sciences or life sciences library. Strong administrative, managerial, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills that encourage and support teamwork. Demonstrated capacity to foster and manage change in a fast-paced environment. Teaching skills; commitment to and enthusiasm for teaching and education; and familiarity with developments in instructional technology, learning assessment trends, and pedagogy. Knowledge of trends in health and life sciences. Commitment to client service. Advanced reference skills. Commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse population.
