DARTMOUTH COLLEGE GLEE CLUB'S

FULLY-STAGED PRODUCTION OF
CANDIDE BY LEONARD BERNSTEIN

Part sophisticated operetta, part Monty Python-esque farce, this irreverent satire takes the audience on a lightning-paced, world-girdling romp as its relentlessly optimistic title character (played by Evan Ross ’13) seeks “the best of all possible worlds.” Bernstein’s glorious score, replete with razor-sharp lyrics, delights with such treats as What a Day for an Auto-da-fé, the heartbreaking What is Kindness? and—sung by Amber Dewey ’12 in the role of Candide’s love, Cunégonde—the irresistible Glitter and Be Gay. With a full orchestra and choreography, and staging by Broadway veteran David Beach ’86 (Urinetown, Mamma Mia).
