  1. Organization and staffing
    1. Reports to Barbara Sagraves, Interim Associate Librarian for Information Resources
    2. 20 staff: Head of Acquisitions Services and Collection Assessment,  4 Supervisors, 5 Specialists, and 8 Assistants,
    3. The mission of Acquisitions Services is to provide exceptional support services for all collection development activities through prudent stewardship of the materials budget and strong working relations with our customers, colleagues and business partners.
  2. Specific responsibilities
    1. Acquisition of materials:
      1. Order
      2. Check-in
      3. Invoices
      4. Claiming
      5. Subscription maintenance for continuations
      6. Drift
      7. Approval plans and Blanket orders
      8. Gifts
      9. Coordination and training for distributed check-in sites
      10. Licenses for electronic resources
    2. Bibliographic control:
      1. Cataloging on receipt (acceptable copy)
      2. Record updates: serial transfers and title changes
      3. Holdings maintenance for serials records
    3. Financial activity:
      1. Management of the financial module of the Sierra system
      2. Financial reports
      3. Year-end closing
      4. Electronic data interchange with the Controller
    4. User services:
      1. Routing of periodicals
      2. Current awareness: Tables of Contents service
      3. Reports -- bibliographic, financial
      4. Sample issues
      5. Reference, especially to bibliographers
      6. Orientation programs, job shares
    5. Other:
      1. Vendor relations
      2. Alumni Memorial Books Program

    1. 20,000 current serial subscriptions
    2. 25,000 "dead" serials
    3. 3000 serial orders/yr
    4. 100 monograph orders/ day (includes gifts and items received through approval plans)
    5. 1800 bibliographic transactions/month on serial records
    6. 16,000 - 18,000 titles cataloged/yr

    1. 12 major vendors
    2. 600 regular vendors
    3. ~200 infrequently used vendors
  6. Electronic functions
    1. Export of invoices to Dartmouth Controller
    2. FTP of invoices and serial renewals from vendors
    3. FTP of bibliographic files from vendors
    4. BISAC format electronic orders to book vendors
    5. SISAC format electronic claims to serial vendors
    6. FTP of bibliographic records from utilities
    7. Online purchasing at commercial Web sites
