Fred Pond, a Biomedical Librarian from
Dartmouth Medical School, will be working at the Karelian National Library and
the Scientific Library of Petrozavodsk State University from 14 May to 12 June
2001. His visit is supported by the US National Library of Medicine.
Fred is happy to work with doctors, teachers
and students as well as librarians. For anyone who is interested, Fred will
give workshops and demonstrations on medical databases that can be accessed
from the Internet. These include MEDLINE, MEDLINEplus, TOXLINE, and AIDSLINE as
well as full text databases such as MDConsult and EBSCO.
MEDLINE Covers the
fields of medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care
system, and preclinical sciences. MEDLINE contains more than 11 million

journals since 1966. Coverage is worldwide, but most records are from
English-language sources or have English abstracts. Fred will demonstrate how
to search MEDLINE, save your searches for later use, and connect to full text
articles if they are available.
MDConsult Contains
the full text of 35 current medical fact books and over 50 medical journals.
Fred will show how to find what you need to keep up-to-date with health care
news, clinical practice guidelines, patient education and drug
