The Collection Development Forum is an open information and discussion forum for all staff and librarians interested in collections issues of all kinds. The goal of the Forum is to provide a means for regular sharing of information, through a mix of discussion and informational presentations. It provides an opportunity for education and orientation for bibliographers, and a way to bring up new policies, procedures, issues, and discuss hot topics and broad trends in collections system-wide.
There are usually 6 meetings a year, 3 between September and January and 3 between January and June. Although this can vary, a typical meeting is structured this way:
Total time: 90 minutes
10-20 minutes to review meeting minutes or announcements published in advance of the meeting and time for late breaking announcements
10-20 minutes for "Updates" from whomever had something to submit
40-60 minutes for the "main" agenda item
There is no set membership for the Collection Development Forum, and meetings are open to all staff and librarians interested in collections issues. The mailing list is called library-cmdc-group and anyone can ask to be added to it; the mailing list is controlled by the Associate Director for Collections.
There is an agenda committee that rotates periodically, and develops agendas based on input from staff and in close collaboration with the CMPG (Collection Management and Planning Committee). Agenda committee members usually take minutes.
