The Dartmouth-L'Aquila Project

cathedralAs a gesture of solidarity with the students and scholars at the University of L'Aquila whose lives have been disrupted by the recent earthquake, we invite two to three graduate students to spend the winter and spring terms 2010 at Dartmouth College (from January to mid-June).

Students must be engaged in an advanced research project and able to work independently.  Preference will be given to those in a Dottorato di Ricerca.  This opportunity is intended primarily for students in the Humanities; students in the Social Sciences will also be considered.

The college will pay for a round trip ticket from Italy and a generous subsidy for rent and living expenses.  Through their affiliation with the Leslie Center for the Humanities, the visitors will have full access to the College's excellent library resources and the opportunity to interact with professors in their area of research.  We will assign each student a faculty mentor in his or her field.

In return, we expect students to give a talk presenting their research, to participate in the cultural life of the college, and to assist the Italian Department with activities for its undergraduate students.

Please send a Curriculum Vitae and a brief description (no more than 2 pages) of your research project to Professors Professor Monika Otter (monika.otter@dartmouth.edu), Graziella Parati (graziella.parati@dartmouth.edu) and Jeanne Clegg (jfclegg@tin.it) by September 30.

Coordinating Committee:
Graziella Parati, Paul D. Paganucci Professor of Italian Literature and Language, Professor of Comparative Literature and Women's and Gender studies and Monika Otter, Associate Professor of English and Comparative Literature.

Sponsored by the Dickey Center for International Understanding, the Provost's Office, and the Leslie Center for the Humanities.
