Since 1997 the Music Department at Dartmouth has enjoyed a lively and stimulating exchange with the venerable Conservatorio di Musica Santa Cecilia in Rome, Italy. In April 2004 Conservatorio Director and noted musicologist Lionello Cammarota was at Dartmouth for a visit, which included a public lecture, class visits and meetings with students of the Music as well as the Italian Departments. Dartmouth faculty William Summers (Musicology) and Sally Pinkas (Piano) have presented lectures and performances at the Conservatorio in 2003, 2005 and 2006. The late distinguished pianist Giuseppe Scotese, Conservatorio faculty for many years, played and taught at Dartmouth in 2004, 2001, 1999 and 1997.
Prof. Cammarota returns to Dartmouth in April 2007, this time with noted Harpist and Conservatorio faculty member Cecilia Andreis. This will be a welcome opportunity to interact with another faculty member of the Conservatorio, and to explore a unique musical instrument and its repertoire.
This visit is co-sponsored by the Griffith Fund at the Music Department, the Dickey Center and the Leslie Humanities Center.
