The Creative Journey of Nike Davies-Okundaye

Photo, Nike Davies-Okundaye at workNike Davies-Okundaye is one of a few internationally known Nigerian women artists. Trained as a weaver, dyer and batik maker, Davies-Okundaye uses a variety of media to express themes from her life and from the Yoruba culture into which she was born. She is also the founder and director of the Nike Center for Arts and Culture, which trains young artists in visual as well as musical and performing arts.

Davies-Okundaye will visit Dartmouth for a 9-day residency beginning November 11th, 2002, in conjunction with a Hood Museum exhibit of her works to open November 16th. Davies-Okundaye's visit will include activities sponsored by the departments of History, Religion and Music, as well as textile workshops and teachers' conferences.
