Research
Genetics and Cognition
We are beginning new research on looking into the interaction of genes and learning. Much of our educational and social worlds consist
of making processes become automatic. This development of automaticity is central to learning in language, math, science, reading, and
bilingualism. To be able to facilitate the development of automaticity in these core educational areas it is necessary to understand
the general mechanisms of automaticity. One project we are conducting is to investigate changes in genetic activity following the
automatization of a process. We are using both DNA microarrays and DNA genotyping to investigate ways that learning and genetic factors
interact.
