Welcome to the discussion area!
This virtual environment has been created as a place where students can engage more fully with Dostoevsky’s Brothers Karamazov.
This page is to be used ONLY by students enrolled in Karen Gocsik’s WRIT 3 class at Dartmouth College.
To use the site, you will be asked to Log In. The first time you do so, you will create a username and password by clicking on the Register link located under the Tools header on the right-hand-side of the screen. Once you have Logged In, you will use the navigation on the right to find an area that you’d like to explore. Within each area, you’ll find links that lead you to the chat pages. (Chat pages are only viable to individuals who have logged into the site.) On each page, beneath the text, you’ll find a box in which you can assume another name or identity (or use your own). You’re ready to start chatting.
First, you’ll want to limit the number of people involved in a conversation. Three is ideal. If a space is too crowded, it’s hard to develop a conversational thread. Look for a new space, and invite others to join you.
Second, take the time to read the prompts and the ongoing conversation before you jump in.
Third, remember to be courteous. Taking on an alias is fun, but it doesn’t give you license to be rude. Note that you’ll have to email me your alias after you’ve finished chatting, in order to get credit for your participation.
Fourth, have fun. This chat space has been developed so that you can talk about the issues that are on your mind. Make good use of it!
