Maybe the most offensive part of this little charade is that our narrator is trying to pass Alyosha off as a hero. A hero! That little monk! By what definition is he a hero? I prefer Ivan – at least he is a brave thinker. Or Dmitri – he’s a sensualist, and a lout, but he lives large, and you can’t help but admire that. But Alyosha? Why choose him as the hero of this little scandal? Does our friend the narrator have his own special definition of a hero?
