I overheard the conversation that Kolya was having with Karamazov. Can you imagine? He confessed that he was insecure! Kolya said, “Sometimes I imagine…that everyone is laughing at me, the whole world, and then…I’m ready to destroy the order of things” (537). And then Alyosha added, “And [you] torment people around you” (537). And Kolya agreed! In listening to them, I began to understand that everybody my age is plagued by insecurity. We are vain on the one hand, and afraid of others’ judgments on the other. Somehow, vanity and fear of judgment have come together in our, crippling us. But I can’t say exactly why or how… Can you?
