Upper Valley Wilderness Response Team

The UVWRT is a member of the Dartmouth Medical School Community Service Committee with a not-for-profit IRS registration under section 501-c-(3). UVWRT is also a member organization of the Vermont Search and Rescue Association and the New Hampshire White Mountains Search and Rescue Working Group. The team is available for callout to any location within a 3 hour travel radius, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This area includes the Upper Connecticut River Valley region, the White Mountains, as well as most of New Hampshire and Vermont. With advanced notification, the team is available to respond to more distant locations.

The UVWRT currently has approximately 30 active volunteer members who are trained in SAR operations and are prepared to be self-sufficient in a wilderness environment for 24 hours without re-supply. Many members are active EMS personnel, and all are well-versed in outdoor skills. Monthly training sessions are geared towards all members attaining and exceeding the standards of the NASAR SAR Technician II and III level.

In addition, the team has been working to streamline its activation procedures, and aims to depart for the scene immediately after a callout request. This increased efficiency is due in part to the generosity of Central Vermont Communications and their donation of their pager service to team personnel.

Specialized squads have been developed within the team to improve SAR endeavors. Recent efforts has been focused upon the medical squad specialization and communication squad specialization.

While the team's primary focus is wilderness search and rescue, we are available to respond to any need for organized emergency manpower.
