305 Susanna Winslow.265,269,266  b. Plymouth, MA before 1630.270 d. E. Bridgewater, MA after November 14, 1685.270

Her servant, John Walker died due to cruelty and neglect on January 15, 1654/5 at Plymouth, and according to Stratton in his history of Plymouth Colony, "following the conviction of Robert Latham for cruelty leading to his servant boy's death, Latham's wife Susanna was presented by the grand jury for being in great measure guilty with her husband in excercising extreme cruelty toward their late servant John Walker. In her case, however, the presentment continued without trial for three years, until the court on 1 June 1658 ordered that she would be held for trial if anyone wished to prosecute her for the offense, but no one came forth, and the court ordered the presentment erased from the records." 271

On March 12, 170, he was part of the general distribution of common land in Newport, RI. In his will, dated 1706, he calls himself a weaver and mention sons William and Nathaniel and daughters Sarah Bull, Hannah and Katherine. Benjamin lived in Rehoboth until about 1675 when he moved to Roxbury. His wife Sarah Polley died in 1678 and he married Sarah Parker the same year. He was among 13 pioneers from Roxbury who set out in April of 1686 to settle the wilderness area around Woodstock, CT. Woodstock, at that time was thirty miles removed from any other civilized town. He was a selectman and deacon of the church. In 1686, he and several others purchased 15,000 acres of land in the area that would become Pomfret, CT. Indian wars delayed the settlement of this land until 1705 when Benjamin came with all his family. He was once again a deacon of the church and remained at Pomfret for twenty years until his death.

He m. Sarah Polley283,147, about 1668 in Rehoboth, MA.

They had the following children:
i. Josiah147 (1669-1745)
ii. Ebenezer (1671-1739)
162 iii. Benjamin (1673-1750)
iv. Mehitable (1677-1707)

325 Sarah Polley.283,147  b. Roxbury, MA before June 2, 1650. d. Roxbury, MA about 1678.

She was baptized the same day as her sister Mary Polley, June 2, 1650 and it is assumed that they were twins because in one line of Sarah's descent every other generation has had multiple births.

326 Samuel Davis.284,285,286,287  b. Roxbury, MA on February 21, 1645. d. Northampton, MA on July 26, 1690.

He was baptized in Roxbury 8th month, 11th day, 1649. He moved form Roxbury to Northhampton in 1668; from there to Deerfield in 1682; to Northfield in 1685; and back to Northhampton in 1690.

In September, 1671, Samuel was a witness at court in the trial of Zebediah Williams who was charged with "profaning the sabbath".288 On January 23, 1692, Tilly Mirick brought a suit against Samuel for payment of 40 shillings in corn that Samuel had promised to pay for a saddle that he got from Mirick. 289

His estate was probated on March 31, 1692. It totaled in value 83£, 4s and was distributed as follows [the copy is badly damaged and difficult to read]:

After debts, remainder to his widow Mary? and his five children, the widow relinquishing her thirds in the land or housing, out of moveable - 14, 04, 00; son to have 15?; son to have 7£, 10s; three daughters are to have (unintelligle) a piece; sons to have land at Northfield, elswhere to ne divided; sons a double share; youngest a single share; widow to have use of all till children come ro receive portions. The final distribution included among others the following:

to Hannah Davis - 3, 15, 00 [daughter]
to Elizabeth Davis - 3, 00, 00 [daughter]
house and land to two sons - 33, 00, 00
Benjamin Edwards - 00, 25, 09 [brother-in-law]
Hannah Pritchard - 14, 04, 00 [widow, remarried]

Apparently, the only documentation for the parents of Elizabeth Davis, Benjamin Sabin's wife, comes from the Sabin Genealogy. It would seem that definite proof is lacking although both Benjamin and Elizabeth were from the town of Roxbury. Elizabeth's father however had removed to Northampton by 1668, so the connection is not altogether clear. Elizabeth Davis' mother died two years after her birth, her father when she was 12 years old, her 1st step-mother died when she was four. She may have been left in the care of her 2nd stepmother, Hannah (Hull?) (Alexander) (Davis) Pritchard, or some other family at Northampton or Roxbury where Samuel's family originated.

332 Nathaniel Millard.211  b. Rehoboth, MA on March 31, 1672. d. Rehoboth, MA on March 16, 1741.

Nathaniel Millard's occupations have been described as weaver and a "malster". He also appears to have owned and operated a mill and was an active land investor/speculator. He had some business dealings with other Cary ancestors, as is evidenced by a deed to John Cary of Bristol, dated December 10, 1707 for the sale of part of 600 acres in Bristol. He was well-to-do and a large land holder of Rehoboth. He inherited land from his father on Rocky River and Palmer River and was an active land buyer in the town after that. Between 1721 and 1734, he transferred about 360 acres of his various land purcahses to his sons. Along with James Bowen, wheelwright he owned a corn mill called the Rocky River Mill in Rehoboth.

At the October 1703 session of the Bristol County Court of Common Pleas he filed suit against his brother Nehemiah Millard for treaspass and filling his well and causing him loss of use of the well. The court found for Nathanial in the amount of 2 shillings. Mehitable West appaered as a witness. 303

In addition to his business interests in Rehoboth, he was also active in buying and selling large pieces of land in the town of Ashford, Connecticut. Between 1718 and 1726, he purchased about 1,000 acres in the southwest part of the town which were mostly sold to settlers in Ashford from 1726 to 1740.

At the May, 1728 session of the Bristol County Court of Common Pleas he filed suit against Ebenezer Millard, Laborer [perhaps a nephew] for 18£ for sheep and lambs delivered to Ebenezer. In July of 1728 he sued Ebenezer Terry for a debt of 14£ due by note. 304

His estate was valued at an impressive figure of 5,438£ which included 3,000£ for his homestead, 85 acres on Manwhague Plain and 300 acres in Ashford, CT. His homestead was left to both sons Nathaniel Jr. and Noah. His daughters Mary, Elizabeth, Rebecca and Mehitable were bequeathed the property in Ashford. Nathaniel Jr. was appointed to maintain the minor children after his father's death, namely, Noah, Mary, Elizabeth, Rebecca and Mehitable.305

He took part in the Narragansett campaign and afterwards, in 1702, he petitioned for a land grant for his services in 1675 and 1676. In 1711, his father-in-law, Thomas Follansbee, "joiner" sold his homestead in Newbury to his son-in-law Thomas Chase, house carpenter. Thomas in turn sold the same property to his son Aquila in 1713 He bequeathed to daughter Ruth Millard fifteen pounds in bills of credit. 309
