Social Security Number Letter Request

Non-immigrants who wish to apply for a social security number should click on our social security card information page in the Visa & Immigration Info section of our website to get a list of required documents. The U.S. government requires the institutions sponsoring international students and scholars to write a letter in support of their social security card applications. This letter verifies that the student or scholar is residing in the U.S., is in a non-immigrant category that is eligible for some sort of work authorization, and is in good academic or non-immigrant standing. Please fill in this online form, and we will e-mail you when your letter is ready for pickup at the International Office, usually within two to three business days.

Please note that F1 Students are not eligible to submit this letter request.  Please follow the instructions on the social security information page and utilize the letter template found on that page.

The information being requested is for the purpose of issuing a social security number letter. Please call us at 603 646-3474, or e-mail us at International.Office@dartmouth.edu, if you have any questions.
