Public Hours:
The customer information center is located at the JFK Federal Building, Room
E-160, and is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 2:30 PM. The office is
closed the third Friday of every month, all weekends and Federal holidays.
Walk-ins:
To speak with an Immigration Information Officer, you must obtain a ticket,
available on a first-come, first-served basis in the customer information
center. The CIS office does not limit the number of tickets given out each day.
Tickets may be obtained from 7:00 AM to 2:30 PM. Please note that you may have
to wait several hours until your number is called.
Paying Fees:
Please note that this office does not accept cash or personal checks. Fees
must be paid by money order only. Please make money orders payable to USCIS.
There is a vendor available in the building where you may purchase a money
order, and there are also a variety of banks in the immediate area as well as
the Post Office where you may also purchase a money order.
II. Vermont Service Center
General Information:
The Vermont Service Center (VSC), formerly known as the Eastern Service
Center, is one of four adjudication processing centers in the United States.
The VSC adjudicates a variety of applications and petitions for immigration
benefits enumerated in the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA).
Applications/petitions are mailed directly to the VSC by the customers.
Service Area:
The VSC accepts and processes certain applications and petitions from people
residing in the following states:
Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New
Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia,
Virgin Islands, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia.

Finding the Status of Applications and Cases Filed or Processed at the
Vermont Service Center:
If your application is pending for longer than the processing time projected
on any receipt, and you have not recently received any type of notice or update
from CIS, you can call the Service Center. If you have a receipt, please have
it with you when you call because you can receive an automated update on the
status of your application using your receipt number. The automated system also
provides information about Service Center mailing addresses, hours, service
areas, and forms.
