Instructions for Obtaining an Undergraduate I-20 or DS-2019 Form
Students requiring a visa status to study in the U.S. must supply complete
documentation to the International Office. Upon receipt of the following
documents, the International Office will issue either a form I-20 or DS-2019,
as appropriate and if required. To begin the process, admitted Class of
2010 undergraduate international students should fill out and return the
following to the International Office:
- Undergraduate
I-20 Request form
- Copies of passport photo and biographical pages
- Financial Aid Award Letter. Students requesting financial aid must
contact the Financial Aid Office for more information.
- Statement of Financial Responsibility. Students requesting financial
aid will need the Financial Aid Award Letter to be able to fill out this form,
which will be available on this site in April.
- Supporting Evidence of Financial Responsibility. For whatever amounts
are promised on the Statement of Financial Responsibility, supporting
documentary evidence must be supplied by the student, e.g. certified copies of
bank statements, letters of employment and the like.
Upon receipt of all required documents, the International Office will issue
Form I-20 or DS-2019 and forward them via UPS Express mail to the
student.
Instructions for Obtaining a Graduate I-20 or DS-2019 Form
In order for an international student to be sponsored by Dartmouth College
for either an F-1 student visa status, or a J-1 exchange student status, the
International Office must receive the following forms / information from the
admitting department:
- The
International Student Intake Form: The admitting department representative
must complete SECTION A of this form before forwarding it to the student for
completion of SECTION B. The student must return the completed form to the
admitting department representative, who will review all information for
accuracy before forwarding the completed packet to the International Office,
Dartmouth College.
- Copy of admissions letter with financial aid award information
- A photocopy of the student's passport photo ID page, and renewal page if
needed
- Financial evidence if student is using personal or outside funding or loans
to pay for tuition and or living expenses
- If the student is currently enrolled at another U.S. school, or has been
enrolled or present in the U.S. during the past 5 months, the Transfer
Verification Form must be completed and returned with copies of current I-94
card and current I-20 form. This separate form is available upon request to the
International Office.
Once all the information is assembled the International Office will issue
and express mail the required immigration form to the admitted international
student. The student may then use the immigration form to apply for a U.S. visa
at a U.S. consulate or Embassy. (Note: Canadian students are visa-exempt, but
must still have the appropriate immigration form in order to enter the U.S. in
the correct student status.
