Dartmouth's International Week is part of a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States. This year the nation is celebrating International Education Week from November 17-21. For more information about the national initiative please visit http://exchanges.state.gov/iew/.

Monday, November 17:
International Lunch: The Pavilion Restaurant, Thayer Dining Hall (11:30am-1:30pm)
Kosher Brazilian Beef Stew and Halal Beef Tamale Pie with a mole sauce are special international lunch items available for purchase courtesy of Dartmouth Dining Services.
New and Old World Opportunities: Tindle Lounge, Thayer Dining Hall (12pm-1pm)
Dartmouth students who have participated in Spanish and Portuguese Language Study Abroad and Foreign Study Programs will speak about their experiences living and learning in countries such as Brazil, Mexico, Spain and Uruguay. Sponsored by Off Campus Programs and the International Office.
Around the World in 120 Minutes: Collis Common Ground (6pm-8pm)
As the main event, this international fair will host visual and cultural information presented by various on and off campus organizations. Taste international cuisine, learn about countries far and near, and see breathtaking performances from cultures around the world. Participants include Middle Eastern dance artist Alia Thabit, Argentine Tango instructor Gerd Hirschmann, Latinas of the Upper Valley, International Student Association, Vietnamese Student Association and more.

English Overseas: Tindle Lounge, Thayer Dining Hall (12pm -1pm)
If you are interested in traveling but only know English, you don't want to miss English Overseas. Dartmouth students who have participated in Language Study Abroad and Foreign Study Programs in English speaking countries will talk about their experiences living and learning in countries such as England, New Zealand, Scotland and Trinidad & Tobago. Sponsored by Off Campus Programs and the International Office.
2nd Annual Holiday Bazaar: Tindle Lounge, Thayer Dining Hall (4:30pm-6:30pm)
Help celebrate international diversity at Dartmouth by donating or purchasing a small gift item. Gift items and mementos from around the world will be on sale one day only. All proceeds will be donated to the Heifer Foundation. Please bring all gift donations to the International Office during regular office hours by November 15. Bulgarian and Japanese Cuisine: Brewster International House (4pm-6pm)
Brewster residents Todor Kalaydjiev and Ognian Kassabov will demonstrate Bulgarian cooking techniques. Followed by a sushi demonstration with Dartmouth Japan Society members. Come watch, participate, learn and taste some international delicacies! Sponsored by the Brewster International House, Dartmouth Japan Society and International Office.

Following in the exuberant style of Run Lola Run, In July is a good-natured romantic comedy set in modern, multicultural Europe. Shy, retiring Daniel impulsively follows his new love from Hamburg to Istanbul. On his wild odyssey he discovers himself, experiments with drugs, is beaten up, seduced, robbed and finally busted by Turkish border guards. German Professor Gerd Gemunden leads a post-film discussion. This film is part of the Dartmouth Film Society series sponsored by the Hopkins Center. Students will discuss their Rockefeller Center and Dickey Center supported internships. Sponsored by the Nelson A. Rockefeller Center and John Sloan Dickey Center for International Understanding.
LALACS Open House and Artwork Tour: LALACS House (6:30pm-7:30pm)
Residents will provide guided tours of the house's Latin American and Chicano artwork from around the US. Latino music. Fresh strawberries with cream, ice tea and lemonade will be served. Sponsored by the Office of Pluralism and Leadership, LALACS and the International Office.
Yojimbo: Arthur M. Loew Auditorium (7pm)
Directed by Akira Kurosawa, Japan. In Japanese with English subtitles, 1961, 110 min.
Yojimbo, our wayward hero, is an unemployed samurai who lets a casually thrown stick decide his next destination. He ends up in a town with two warring gangs and happily plays one against the other. With timeless vignettes of human behavior, this kinetic and highly entertaining comic noir is a classic study of double-crossing. Professor Dennis Washburn leads a post-film discussion. International Dress Day (All Day)
Everyone at Dartmouth and in the Upper Valley is encouraged to wear traditional international clothing all day. Participants please sign up for a prize drawing in the Collis Lobby from 1pm-2pm or from 5pm-6pm.
