-

Homework assignments will consist of weekly problem sets normally due
Wednesday mornings at the beginning of class. (on days wehn the Wednesday
class is cancelled, problem sets will be due at the beginning of Thursday's
X-hour.) On the day they are due, late assignments will lose 30% credit
if turned in before 5:00 pm and will receive no credit if turned in after
5:00 pm.
< /FONT>
To determin your final homework grade, the best 6 out of 7 problem sets
will be counted. ÊNote that you are responsible for completing all 7
assignments in order to receive an overall homework grade.

Scheduled laboratory exercises are held in the IMPS Room, 219 Wilder.
Students are expected to come to lab prepared, having read and worked out any
pre-lab exercises as described in the laboratory exercise instructions.
Instructions for the laboratory exercises are available here .
Two lab sections are offered:
Wednesday 6:00 - 9:00 pm
Thursday 6:00 - 9:00 pm
As in Science 13, lab work is recorded in quadrille ruled laboratory notebooks (you
may continue to use the ones you purchased last term). Labs are to be completed and
the notebook handed in before leaving the lab.
Note that due to the nature of the engineering lab facillities at the Thayer School,
the Photolithography and Device Testing labs (#4, 5, and 6) will be scheduled outside
of the normal lab periods, in order to accommodate smaller groups of students.
Professor Levey of the Thayer School will provide additional details during his
guessed lecture on Wednesday, February 7th.
You are responsible for completing all 6 labs in order to receive an overall lab
grade. The final lab grade will be based on the best 5 out of 6 labs.
|
|
There will be one midterm exam during the term (Monday, Feb. 5, 6:00 -
8:00 pm, in 104 Wilder) and one comprehensive final exam. You may
bring a calculator and one aid sheet (both sides of an 8.5 X 11 sheet of
paper) to the exams.
|
|
Unexcused failure to be present in class during an unannounce in-class quiz will
result in zero points for that quiz. Unexcused failure to turn in a homework assignment
by 5 pm on the day it is due will result in zero credit for that assignment. Unexcused
failure to attend your scheduled laboratory session will result in zero points
for that examination. (Note that you are required to complete all homework
assignments and all labs in order to receive a homework grade and a lab grade,
respectively.
Do not assume that an excuse for missing a class, laboratory, or
examination is a valid one until you have checked with Professor
Mycek. Should you become seriously ill or have any other reason for
missing required meetings in the course, BLITZ Professor Mycek as
soon as possible before the scheduled meeting so that we can discuss
your situation.
|
|
Your grade will be determined from a composite raw score including
examinations, homework assignments, and laboratory grades as follows:
Midterm: 35%
Final Exam: 35%
Homework : 20%
Lab Grade: 10%
The letter grade you receive will not be obtained from "curving" the composite
raw score. Rather, an absolute scale will be used to assign grades where 90% or
better determines at least an A, 80% or better determine at least a B, 70% or better
determines at least a C, and 60% or better determines a passing grade. Note that
results of in-class quizzes will be used to adjust borderline grades up or down.

Students with Disabilities
|
|
Students with disabilities, including "invisible" disabilities likr chronic disease,
learning disabilities, and psychiatric disabilities, who will be taking the course and may
need disability-related accommodations are requested to make an appointment to see
Professor Mycek as soon as possible. You may also want to register for support services
with the Academic Skills Center in 301 Collis Center.
