Academic Honor Principle

Dartmouth students are expected to adhere to the Academic Honor Principle. In this course, the principle applies to you in the following ways:

While you are encouraged to work with others on homework assignments, the assignments handed in for grading must represent your independent understanding of the material. Therefore, you may not simply copy another person's work and submit it for grading as your own work.

Similarly, while most laboratory work is performed with a lab partner, the write-up in the lab notebook is done independently and you should clearly indicate shared data or analysis in your lab work submitted for grading.

Finally, all quizzes and exams shall be worked on independently, with no aid, written or verbal given or received except directly from the instructor.

Note that the Academic Honor Principle not only describes how you are to behave in your own work, it also carries the clear moral obligation to take action if you encounter a violation by others.
