A Look Towards the Art of the East and Other Non-Western Art

Christine Hawkins
Wednesday 12:00 – 2:00 PM
January 11 through February 8, 2006
Hood Museum

This January there is to be a most intriguing exhibit at the Hood Museum entitled "Past in Reverse:  Contemporary Art of East Asia."  This exhibit will be examined with awareness that contemporary artists engage the past via aesthetic and conceptual principles that are rooted in the arts and cultures of their particular regions and origins.  The group will also contrast and compare two other continents’ cultures through their art of the past and present:  Australian Aborigines and North American Native Americans.

This will be an active discussion course.  The text, Non-Western Art, a Brief Guide, will have the assigned readings, and there will be slides and art objects to view.
