Mondays 12:00 – 2:00 PM
January 10 through February 14, 2005
D.O.C. House
As Vladimir Nabokov wrote: "Butterflies and literature are the two sweetest passions known to man." We will explore this relationship while learning something of the natural history of the one and the psychological manifestations of the other. We will also seek to understand the often obsessive link between man and butterfly.
The format will be illustrated lecture and class discussion. The voracious appetite of a caterpillar should inspire our reading while its metamorphosis reflects our enlightened goal.
The discussion and readings will examine metamorphosis, collecting, and obsession.
Class is limited to 12 members.
