An overview of American divorce law, noting the extraordinary shift in attitude towards divorce and property rights, as seen through the statutes and cases of New Jersey.
A two-session course, which will first cover the old divorce law philosophy and how it affected divorce litigants, followed by an assessment of the new era of "no fault divorce," equitable distribution and modern custody dispositions.
Primarily a lecture course, class members will be encouraged to participate in class discussions. Minimal reading of statutes and cases.
Class is limited to 20 members.
JOSEPH CONN, an active "Ileadian" since 1993 (both giver and taker), spent seventeen years on the Superior Court of New Jersey, five of which were in the Matrimonial Division, where he granted divorces, divided property, awarded counsel fees and decided custody disputes.
