No lights or camera, but lots of vocal action is promised in this course! Class participation is a given. While we will discuss some techniques of vocal production and investigate the devices of alliteration, assonance and onomatopoeia, the emphasis will be on recitation and interpretation of readings supplied at the beginning of the course. Such reading will include excerpts from Shakespeare, "The Song of Solomon," Dunne, Giraudoux, St. Exupéry, O'Neill, Frost, Eberhardt, Dickinson, Tennyson, Keats, Bishop and others. In addition, class members will be asked to bring in favorite passages they want to work on. Whether our audience is a church congregation, business meeting, political assembly, theatre production, family celebration, or simply reading to a grandchild at bedtime, we can all learn to use our voices better to persuade, create interest and excitement, or to awake our listeners to the beauty or import of a passage.
Class is limited to 15 members.
Sylvia Field is an incorrigible ham. She has taken roles in several plays and directed and acted in two Readers Theatre plays at her church. She lives in Hanover and loves to visit her three dramatic granddaughters whom she adores. She has previously taught ILEAD courses in writing autobiography and travel memoirs. Reading aloud is one of her favorite occupations. She hopes to share this joy with others.
