Fiction Writing

Suzanne Levi

Thursdays, 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
March 25 - May 13, 2004
Kendal at Hanover - Penn/Morley

A writing workshop, designed for experienced, as well as novice, creative fiction writers to develop, encourage and promote writing skills. Student work will be discussed and gently critiqued in class. The first five sessions will consist of homework assignments; the last three sessions will require original short story writing.

The student will learn to evaluate his or her work by asking: "Do I capture and hold my readers' interest?" keeping in mind the importance of the opening paragraph.

We will study the need of eliminating unnecessary words and choosing appropriate ones sparingly and with precise meaning. Strong emphasis will be placed on students reading their work in class.

Class is limited to 10 participants.

Suzanne Levi is a graduate of the International School of Geneva, has a BA in French Literature, and has taught fiction writing at Skidmore College in Saratoga. She has been published in the New York Times and Redbook Magazine.
