Introduction To The Greek Of The New Testament

Martha H. Wiencke

Wednesdays 1-3 PM
March 26 through May 14, 2003
D.O.C. House

This study aims to give the students an elementary introduction to the Greek of the New Testament, a difficult but fascinating language. After learning the alphabet and practicing reading aloud, we shall take up the most important grammatical forms and constructions, and some basic vocabulary. We'll use W.D. Mounce's Workbook Basics of Biblical Greek, which supplies only sentences and longer passages, taken directly from Scripture. Thus we will discover how familiar verses look and sound in the original.

Some daily practice in reading aloud and translating is highly recommended!

Class is limited to 15 participants.

Martha Wiencke received a A.B. from Bryn Mawr College in classical archaeology, a Ph.D. in Greek literature and prehistoric Greek archaeology from Yale, and spent three years at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens. She has made frequent trips to Greece since then. She has taught high school and college Latin, and occasionally Greek, most recently to a group of parishioners at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Hanover.
