The three presenters will offer viewpoints from their particular areas of interest in sculpture. Dr. Monroe Denton will offer an international focus from the contemporary sculptural scene. International exhibitions such as Documenta will be included in his presentation. Barry Raine will have as his theme "Sculpture as Icon" which is the working title of his book. His emphasis will be on particular trends of current American outdoor sculpture. Charlet Davenport will cover regional aspects. A history of Sculpture Fest and some discussion of the permanent outdoor sculpture on the Dartmouth campus will be included.
Class is limited to 20 participants.
Charlet Davenport (painter, installation artist and ceramic sculptor) is the founder and curator of Sculpture Fest an annual outdoor sculpture exhibition in Woodstock, VT. She has served on the Board of the Vermont Council on the Arts, The Johnson Studio Center and is a reviewer of regional art exhibitions (NH,VT) for Art New England.
Barry Raine is an author living in New York City. Where the River Bends, a work of non fiction, was published in 2002. He is currently working on a book for Grounds for Sculpture titled "Sculpture as Icon."
Dr. Monroe Denton is an art historian and critic living in Brooklyn, NY. He teaches at the School for Visual Arts in Manhattan. He is a regular speaker at Storm King Art Center in Mountainville NY. a major sculpture park which includes the recent "Wall" by Andy Goldsworthy.
