Church of Christ - Rand Room
The organ: what is it? How is it designed? How is it installed? What variety is there between instruments? What about the organ’s history and literature? These are the questions the class will address as it enjoys the unparalleled experience of interacting directly with the organ builders in the process of installing the new organ at Christ Church at Dartmouth College, being built by Letourneau Organs of Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec, Canada. There will be plenty of time for class discussion, “hands on” interaction, and some minimal class assignments, but the main focus of this course is the new organ as it is being installed.
Class is limited to 16 members.
Ernie Drown is organist and choirmaster at the Church of Christ. Earlier he held the same position at St. Thomas Church. He teaches piano and organ privately, and performs when time permits.
Heywood Alexander is a professor emeritus at Cleveland State University, Cleveland, Ohio. While in Cleveland he was organist and choirmaster at Trinity Cathedral (Episcopal) and, later, The Church of the Covenant (Presbyterian).
