An analytical reading of the entire novel, with special focus on the invention of narrative spaces and ambiguities. The use of Rutherford’s superb translation will provide access to the unique narrative stance of this unique novel.

ROBERT RUSSELL taught Spanish language and literature at Dartmouth from 1957 to 2003. Specializing in research on the “rebirth” of the Spanish novel in the 19th century, he is keenly aware of Cervantes as the “fountainhead of fiction.”
