The books of Ruth and Esther are sometimes linked for their feminine themes. Both are part of a group of five books (Song of Songs, Ruth, Esther, Lamentations, and Ecclesiastes) which play a role in the Jewish liturgical year. They are linked for a third reason — even though they often are considered to be part of the historical books of the Bible, both may be works of fiction. Because their themes are different and unusual, they are fascinating reading. The course will concentrate on a study of both texts and will include considerable class discussion.
Class is limited to 40 participants.
