Love And Anger

Scribner Jelliffe

Thursdays 3-5 PM
October 2 through November 20, 2003
D.O.C. House

How intricate the collision of these two passions, how unpredictable the result.

Works selected, and roughly paired, to stimulate the active reader and provide material for meaningful conversation and the sharing of perspectives: Euripedes' Medea and Ibsen's Hedda Gabler; four short poems and the Gospel of Matthew; stories by Flannery O'Connor and William Faulkner; in conclusion, Tolstoy's Kreutzer Sonata and Checkhov's The Lady with the Dog.

There are eight sessions. All the works are bound in one volume available at the ILEAD office. To assure the fair exchange of ideas, class membership is limited to twelve, who will come having read.

Class is limited to 12 participants.

Scribner Jelliffe graduated from Dartmouth and obtained an MA from NYU in History before teaching in schools in this country and abroad. As an adjunct to teaching, he has lead Great Books discussion groups.
